Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria celebrates Polish National Education Day

19.10.2022

On October 14, we celebrate the "National Education Day" in Poland, the holiday of all education workers both in the country and abroad.

Polish National Education Day celebrated in South Africa

Education is one of the most important bonding elements in the life of any nation. Knowledge and a passion for learning are key to its development, consolidating its culture and building a common identity. Thanks to education, our children know where they come from, what was the fate of their ancestors and how they can contribute to building a better future. Education is also important in Polish communities where Polish children, often born abroad, get to know the homeland of their parents and grandparents in Polish schools scattered around the world. The role of Polish teachers is therefore additionally difficult, because they teach children about Poland, who often know their homeland only from stories.

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, Consul Michał Gierwatowski expressed his best wishes for perseverance, commitment and a sense of responsibility for the upbringing of the young generation of Poles to the teachers at the Polish School by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria. The wishes were also an expression of gratitude for the huge work and dedication that they put into educating our children.

They are currently two active primary schools in South Africa. The Polish School by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria, and the Polish Saturday School in Cape Town.

It is the four teachers running these two institutions who are responsible for the education of the Polish diaspora in South Africa: in Pretoria - Lidia Moń, Headmaster, Magdalena Górna, Beata Kozłowska and Agata Pajor, Head of the school in Cape Town. Let us help them as much as we can, enroll children in school and engage in their daily functioning.

Children will thank us for it in the future!
