Saint Nicholas Day at the Polish School in Pretoria
03.12.2022
On December 3, 2022, the pupils of the Polish School in Pretoria were visited by Santa Claus, who gave the children small Christmas gifts. Due to the fact that these were the last school classes in 2022, the meeting was an opportunity to celebrate the past year and share plans for the new year. Consul Michał Gierwatowski extended his best New Year's and Christmas wishes to all those present.
In Poland, as well as in other Catholic and Orthodox countries, this day has been celebrated for centuries in honour of Saint Nicholas, who lived at the turn of the 3rd and 4th centuries. Saint Nicholas was a bishop in the Italian city of Mira (Bari). His figure is unjustifiably associated with gifts, as the priest became famous for helping the poor and needy.
Merry Christmas and happy new year!!!
