“Warsaw Rising 1944” - lecture by Director Paweł Ukielski at Pretoria Boys High School
06.09.2024
Director Paweł Ukielski gave an insightful lecture on the Warsaw Rising at the prestigious South African secondary school Pretoria Boys High on 6 September 2024. The event was organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in cooperation with the Warsaw Uprising Museum and the Pretoria Boys High School.
Students from the school, mostly members of a dynamic history club, listened with interest to Director Ukielski's lecture. Thanks to the lecture, they were able to learn about events from World War II that are little known in South Africa. After listening to a lecture, watching two short documentaries: "Warsaw - City of Ruins" and interviews with pilots (including South African - Bryan Desmond Jones) who took part in military missions - airlifts for the Warsaw Uprising, as well as the premiere of the exhibition "Warsaw Uprising 1944", the students were surprised and shocked by the enormity of the damage and destruction that Poland suffered during World War II.
After the lecture, students and their parents could ask questions to director Ukielski. Ambassador Adam Burakowski took part in the event and gave a special speech. He also answered questions. The event gathered over 70 people: students, parents and the school's teaching staff.
