A visit to the school for blind children in Kibeho

16.12.2020

Blind and visually impaired children in Rwanda have a chance for education thanks to the hard work of the Franciscan Sisters Servants of the Cross, whom Dr. Ewelina Lubieniecka from the Polish Embassy in Dar es Salaam had the pleasure to visit.

The Educational Institute for Blind Children in Kibeho was established in 2009 by Sr. Rafaela Nałęcz from the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters Servants of the Cross from Laski near Warsaw. From the very beginning, the school has been supported by Polish aid. Thanks to the involvement of sisters, volunteers and teachers, children from the school in Kibeho continue their education at secondary and even higher level also abroad. The center is the first facility for the blind in Rwanda. Before its creation, blind people were deprived of education in this country.
