Diplomatic relations between Poland and Malawi were established on July 10th, 1992.

Political cooperation after 1989
Shortly after establishing diplomatic relations, chargé d'affaires a.i. in Harare paid a working visit to Malawi in 1994. He was received by President B. Muluzi. In 2005, the first Malawi ambassador was accredited to Poland. Until 2008, Poland in Malawi was represented by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Harare. After its liquidation this responsibility was taken over by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria, and in 2017 Malawi was included in the territorial competence of the newly created Embassy of Poland in Dar es Salaam. In 2018, during the submission of credentials, Ambassador Krzysztof Buzalski met with President Peter Mutharika. He also paid a visit to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emmanuel Fabiano. The seat of the Malawian Embassy accredited to Poland is Berlin.
Recognition of academic qualifications
Documents confirming education are recognized on general principles. Poland and Malawi did not sign any bilateral agreements in this respect.
Polish institutions operating in Malawi
There are no Polish institutions in Malawi. The country is under the territorial competence of the Polish Embassy in Dar es Salaam.
