Ambassador Buzalski at the inauguration at the health center in Maganzo
14.06.2021
On June 11, 2021 Ambassador Krzysztof Buzalski took part in the inauguration of the new wing of the health center run by the Polish Elizabethan Sisters in Maganzo, Geita region. Thanks to the project implemented by the Sisters in cooperation with the Redemptoris Missio organization, financed by Polish aid, it was possible to build and equip an X-ray and ultrasound center as well as offices for specialist doctors. The project was carried out as part of the Polonia for Neighbors campaign and Polish support for the poorest affected by the coronavirus epidemic.
Maganzo is located in the center of the Geita gold-bearing area of northwestern Tanzania. The extraction of gold by poor miners is carried out by the simplest methods, often dangerous to health, in a dusty environment and with the use of toxic mercury. The result is numerous cases of respiratory diseases and a particular susceptibility to viruses such as COVID-19. The Polish aid project will allow the Sisters of Maganzo and the clinic run by them to diagnose diseases faster and to help those in need. In doing so, we contribute to the health of the poor people of the Geita region.
