10.12.2023
Students of the secondary, vocational and technical schools, as well as employees of the Educational Center of St. Maximilian Kolbe in Segerea are already using computers purchased this year thanks to a project implemented jointly by the Center and the Polish Embassy in Dar es Salaam and financed by the Polish Aid.
Students of the Educational Center of St. Maximilian Kolbe in Segerea, Tanzania, come from poor or moderately wealthy families from the Dar as Salaam and adjacent regions. A small grant from the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Dar es Salaam, which was allocated in 2023 for the project entitled "Developing computer literacy in youth and teachers in Segerea" allowed not only the purchase of computers and the necessary software, but also the organization of IT training for over 100 students and employees of the educational facility.
The Head of the Political and Economic Unit of the Polish Embassy in Dar es Salaam Katarzyna Sobiecka met the students benefiting from the project. They will gain the opportunity to continue their education by following both IT and other university programs, especially taking into account that operating in a computer environment is an inherent element of any academic level education today.
Educational Center of St. Maximilian Kolbe in Segerea is located on the outskirts of the economic capital of Tanzania, the city of Dar es Salaam. It is run by the Franciscan Fathers from Poland. It has been operating for 15 years now and is a large institution bringing together over 1,600 children and young people at various stages of school education, from kindergarten, through primary school, to vocational and secondary school. In 2017, Polish Aid funds were allocated, among others, to the construction of a vocational education school, and in 2018 – a kindergarten within this center.
The first graduates of the Educational Center of St. Maximilian Kolbe in Segerea are already successful university students.
