Our Embassy participated in the European Film Festival in Tanzania
23.11.2023
As part of the European Film Festival, which joined forces with the Zanzibar International Film Festival, screenings of movies from 10 European countries, including Poland and Ukraine, took place from November 3 to 23, 2023.
The EFF was organized for the third time (first time in 2021) by the EU Delegation and 10 Member States present in Dar es Salaam: Belgium, Finland, France, Spain, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Poland, Sweden and Ukraine and presented films in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Bagamoyo.
Representatives of our Embassy took part in the inauguration of the Festival at Alliance Francaise, where "Eoni", the winner of this year's ZIFF, was screened.
Our screening of "Memory is our homeland" took place on November 8 at the Goethe Institute. This documentary film by a Canadian director and photographer with Polish roots, Jonathan Kołodziej Durand, tells the story of Poles deported during World War II to the Soviet Union, who then ended up as refugees in Africa in 1942. Among the Poles who found shelter from the atrocities of war was the director's teenage grandmother - she lived in the Polish refugee camp in Tengeru near Arusha, in what was then British Tanganyika, and is now Tanzania.
During the screening, we also presented a thematic exhibition about Polish refugees in Tanzania. The event was attended by Ambassador Krzysztof Buzalski and the representatives of the Embassy, as well as representatives of diplomatic corps and local audience.
Ambassador Buzalski and Embassy’s representatives also participated in the screening of the Ukrainian movie "Luxembourg Luxembourg" presented at the Goethe Institute.
