Our Embassy took part in the EUNIC "Umoja" project in Tanzania
10.11.2022
As part of the cooperation of the EUNIC (European Union National Institutes of Culture) cluster in Tanzania, we participated in the implementation of the "Umoja"/Unity” project, supporting the interaction of artists from East Africa and Europe, realized by the embassies of: France, Spain, Germany, Italy and Poland and the EU Delegation, Alliance Francaise and Goethe Institut, as well as local partners: Muda Africa, Nafasi Art Space, Nantea Dance Company and Dar es Salaam University.
The "Umoja" project ("Unity" in Swahili) was based on the assumption that cooperation brings cultural understanding, innovation and enhances the creative arts. It included a 2-month innovative and multidisciplinary artist residency opening a cultural dialogue between East African and European artists with a focus on promoting gender balance in the arts.
The project also equipped the Department of Creative Arts of the University of Dar es Salaam with a movable/folding stage for the performances taking place there.
Representatives of the Embassy took part in two evenings of music, poetry and dance at Nafasi Art Space and at the University of Dar es Salaam, which was the finale of this joint project lasting several months.
