Polish Aid supports the development of leadership and creative competences among young people in Burundi

Within the framework of Polish development cooperation, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Dar es Salaam continues its commitment to educating Burundian youth. This year, thanks to funds provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Polish missionaries from the Congregation of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers organized three workshop sessions in the academic city of Gitega in Burundi, each of which was addressed to a group of 40 participants.
The series of meetings was inaugurated by a young talents’ festival. Young amateur artists (singers, painters, actors, decorators, dancers, poets) gained an opportunity to meet at the Discalced Carmelite Spirituality Center in Burundi's second largest city, Gitega, to share their artistic experience and achievements. Next, 3 three-day thematic training sessions devoted to discovering one's talents (school of creativity, shaping the profile of personal development), nurturing and developing personal creativity (forms of expression and communication school) as well as cooperation and sharing one's own potential (promotion of social values for the sake of the local community) were conducted.
The aim of this project co-financed by Polish aid is to support talented academic youth in the process of developing their personal – including artistic – potential and talents in the context of lacking good development prospects for the young generation in Burundi. The participants of the meetings took part in conferences, presentations, discussions and workshops in thematic groups, which were designed to open up better prospects in the area of entrepreneurship (organization of events) and in the cultural and artistic area (a small number of cultural centers and a low level of cultural life in Burundi) for them. The event gathered Burundian leaders, artists and social activists as well.
