St. Angel Day Care Center kindergarten with a new school bus financed by Polish aid
23.09.2021
The new bus for St. Angel Day Care Center in Kurasini, Dar es Salaam, has been purchased in the framework of the project entitled "Increasing the educational opportunities of children in Kurasini by providing a means of transport" among others from Polish aid funds.
The project has been implemented through the cooperation of the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Sisters operating in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Dar es Salaam and MIVA (Mission Vehicle Association). The work of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate in Tanzania is based on home visits, pastoral assistance, teaching catechism in secondary schools and running a kindergarten, also by Polish sisters
St. Angel Day Care Center that was visited on September 23, 2021 by a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Dar es Salaam, Katarzyna Sobiecka, started its activity in January 2007. It accepts children regardless of their origin, social status or faith (approx. 80 students aged 3 to 6). Some students attending this education facility commute from remote districts of Dar es Salaam, where the quality of roads makes it difficult to travel – to the extent that some areas cannot be walked in the rainy season – and where it is dangerous to travel by public transport. Designated pedestrian crossings are rare, as are street lights.
The new school bus not only ensures the safety of children on their way to the kindergarten and when returning home, but also significantly relieves their parents, allows to improve the organization of school activities regardless of the weather, and reduces the kindergarten maintenance costs.
