On February 8-9, 2024, President Andrzej Duda and First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda paid an official visit to Tanzania, during which the following took place: talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan, a visit to the Aga Khan Hospital, where the Polish Center for International Aid implements the Polish Aid project and the Polish community reception.
President Andrzej Duda talked with President Samia Suluhu Hassan about the possibilities of further development of cooperation between Poland and Tanzania. The areas for strengthening cooperation included the following: tourism, agriculture, modern industry, information and communication technologies, water resources management and education. The President drew attention to the possibilities of developing cooperation, including: in the tourism industry and agriculture.
He also noted that the interpersonal bond is much longer, because 7,000 people came to Tanzania during World War II. Polish refugees from deep within Soviet Russia. – These people released from slavery by Stalin, mainly women and children, came here looking for a chance to live a peaceful life. They were welcomed by the people of Tanzania, for which we, Poles, remain deeply grateful in our hearts to this day, he recalled.
During their visit to Dar es Salaam, the Presidential Couple also visited the Aga Khan Hospital, where Polish Aid implements support programs in the area of emergency medicine and conducts training in this field as part of a project implemented by PCPM. Polish staff trains medical instructors and medical staff in Tanzania, and also conducts first aid classes for eyewitnesses of events, including fire brigade officers, policemen, scouts.
During the visit, the Presidential Couple also took part in a gala reception for the Polish community and Tanzanian graduates of Polish universities. The reception was honoured by the performance of an international band of missionaries who sang Polish and Tanzanian music. The President emphasized that Polish missionaries put a lot of effort into everyday service to other people and are our best ambassadors in African countries. President Duda also said that he hopes for the presence of Polish companies on the Tanzanian market, not only from the tourism industry (which are already in Zanzibar), but also from the digital industry, in the field of data protection, environmental protection, which contribute to the development countries.
During his visit to Tanzania, President Andrzej Duda was accompanied by Ambassador Krzysztof Buzalski.
First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda visited the kindergarten in Kurasini and the Saint Maksymilian Educational Center in Segerea, both run by Polish missionaries and supported by development projects financed by Polish aid.
