100 000 applications under the government programme “My Electricity”

14.07.2020

“Due to the “My Electricity” programme, prosument photovoltaics are widely popular among Polish citizens, as confirmed by the number of applications lodged so far. Today, we have an opportunity to thank the person who has submitted the 100 000th application and joined the people who believe in green electricity” - said the Minister of Climate, Michał Kurtyka.

So far, 100 thousand applications have been lodged under the “My Electricity” programme (1st and 2nd call for proposals) for co-financing home photovoltaic systems (PV), allowing to generate a total energy output of 560 MW.

Polish citizens are increasingly more eager to invest in photovoltaics. Owning a PV installation allows to save up on electricity bills on one hand, and brings obvious environmental benefits on the other, and that is why we wish to increase the number of such installations. Today we know that launching the “My Electricity” programme was the perfect solution, which had a positive impact on the increase of the home photovoltaics - stressed the Minister Michał Kurtyka.

As pointed out by the Government Plenipotentiary for RES, Deputy Minister Ireneusz Zyska, the growth dynamics of the new photovoltaic installations causes the solar energy sector to become the fastest growing RES sector in Poland.

The total power output installed in photovoltaic systems in the National Electric Power System currently amounts to 2108,9 MW, which means an increase by 175,14 percent year-to-year - he added.

Deputy Minister Zyska stressed that the success is a result of changes in the legal regulations and due to the introduction of programmes such as “My Electricity,” which allows to obtain co-financing for 50 percent of the costs of constructing an installation with a power output of 2 up to 10kW, and can amount to a total of PLN 5 thousand.

We have been implementing the government programme “My Electricity” since August 30th of the previous year with a total annual budget of PLN 1 billion. We invest the funds in increasing production of solar electricity obtained from prosumer photovoltaic installations with a power output of 2-10 kW. Until today, over 10 thousand Polish citizens have joined the programme, so we are already half way through and we are waiting to receive another 100 thousand applicants. The total power output of the installations covered by the submitted applications amounts to 560 MW, which generate an annual electric output of 560 GWh/year. When we compare the data to the largest Polish photovoltaic farm situated in Czerniakowo municipality near Toruń with a power output of 3,77 MW - it turns out that at this stage, “My Electricity” co-finances nearly 148 such electric plants - said the acting Director of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management Dominik Bąk.

The Head of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management has explained, that in addition to managing “My Electricity,” the National Fund experts pay close attention to the market and the needs of the applicants; therefore, the programme continues to grow. The facilitations which are already in place include: online applications which are processed quicker than paper applications (since March 31st), programme plenipotentiary (since May 22nd) and integration with another government programme, titled: “Clean Air” (since May 15th).

About the programme

"My Electricity” is one of the largest European programmes for financing photovoltaic micro-installations for natural persons, who generate electricity for their own needs. The condition for joining the programme is a complex agreement, defining the matters related to introducing the power energy generated by the micro-installation to the power grid.
