The Minister of Climate and Environment, with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs about the conclusion of an agreementfor co-financing the project “Active protection of endangered species of Charadriiformes on the Vistula River islands: implementation of selected protection tasks in the area of SPA “Dolina Środowej Wisły” PLB140004”

The project beneficiary is The Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw (Uniwersytet Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego w Warszawie).

About the project

The project received funding in the call for proposals for Implementation of ecosystem management plans under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, in the area of Environmental status of ecosystems improved.

The total cost is approximately EUR 510 thousand (PLN 2.2 million) and the requested amount of funding is approximately EUR 430 thousand (PLN 1.9 million).

It is co-financed in 85% by the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (of which 85% comes from the EEA Financial Mechanism and 15% from the national budget). 

The project is implemented in the area of Natura 2000 Dolina Środkowej Wisły PLB140004 - in its central and southern parts (poviats: Puławy, Rycki, Kozienicki and Garwoliński).

The aim of the project is the active protection of endangered bird species: grey and black-headed gull, little and common tern, oystercatcher and black-headed gull. The tasks carried out will increase breeding success and reduce mortality of adults on the breeding grounds.

Implementation period

The agreement for the project's co-financing was signed on 23rd November 2021 and the planned completion date is April 30, 2024.
