The Minister of Climate and Environment, with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs about the conclusion of a contract for co-financing the project “Active protection of the Polish population of Ligularia sibirica”.

The project beneficiary is the Nature and Human Foundation.

About the project

The project received funding in the call for proposals for Activities related to the protection of the environment and ecosystems carried out by the NGOs under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, in the area of Environmental status of ecosystems improved.

The total cost is approximately EUR 210 thousand (PLN 920 thousand) and the requested amount of funding is approximately EUR 190 thousand (PLN 830 thousand).

It is co-financed in 90% by the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (of which 85% comes from the EEA Financial Mechanism and 15% from the national budget).

The aim of the project is to improve the status of the critically endangered European species of wetland habitat of the Siberian linguine (Ligularia sibirica) and its habitats. The planned activities include the creation of a database on the status of the population, the restoration of proper habitat conditions, and the conduct of natural monitoring of the species and its habitats.

In projects carried out under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, great emphasis is placed on educational activities. This is no different in the undertaking of the Nature and Human Foundation.

The educational activities will target the local community, farmers, teachers and will aim to engage these communities around the problem of active protection of water-dependent habitats.
