Climate at metropolis schools

The Minister of Climate and Environment, supported by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM), as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs of the conclusion of the agreement on co-financing Climate at metropolis schools project.

The beneficiary of the project is Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area.

About the project

The project obtained co-financing in the call for proposals: Awareness raising activities on climate change mitigation and adaptation carried out by schools under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, in the area of climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The beneficiary of the project is The Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area and the eligible costs of EUR 692 903 (approximately PLN 3 M) are financed 100 % from the EEA Grants.

Additional funds for projects in the Program

As a result of the increase procedure announced by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the amount of funding for the project has increased and amounts to approximately PLN 3.5 million (EUR 816 354).

Forty schools located in the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area are included in the project. The project will contribute to increase students' and teachers' awareness of climate change and reduce local greenhouse gas emissions. The project will create a green-blue infrastructure for water retention.

As part of the project, a green-blue infrastructure will be created at each school, in the creation of which the school community will be actively involved. Schools will have the choice of creating, for example, a rain garden, an infiltration basin, a compost bin or a green wall. The project will be complemented by education and information activities such as workshops and classes for the school community on the practical use of the created infrastructure and a competition for students on the promotion of pro-climate actions "Protect the environment of the Metropolis".

Partnership

The project is conducted with the Norwegian partner International Development Norway.and the Polish partner Gdańskie Wody.

Implementation period

The project will end on April 30, 2024.
