Environment Energy and Climate Change Programme MF EOG #ENERGY

The Minister of Climate and Environment, supported by the national Fund for Environmental protection and Water management (NFEP&WM), as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs of the conclusion of the agreement on co-financing Construction of a cogeneration gas source at Zakłady Górniczo-Hutnicze Bolesław S.A. project.

The project is conducted by the Mining and metallurgical plants „Bolesław” joint-stock company (ZGH “Bolesław”).

About the project

The project obtain co-financing in the call for proposals Development of high-efficiency industrial and professional cogeneration under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme in the area of Improving energy efficiency and energy security.

The project is co-financed in 30 % by the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (of which 85% comes from the EEA Financial Mechanism and 15% from the national budget).

The total cost of the project is over PLN 62 million, of which the maximum amount of co-financing is over PLN 30 million (over EUR 4 million).

Investment activities

The aim of the project is the construction of a high-efficiency gas cogeneration plant with a capacity of approx. 12.9 MWe (3 x 4.3 MWe), which will generate electricity and heat in the form of saturated steam ( heat recovery from flue gases) and hot water used for the technological needs of the plant and to cover the demand for central heating and hot water of the plant, external companies connected to the heat distribution network of Beneficiary and the city of Bukowno.

Through the undertaken activities the coal water boiler will be removed as well as the operation of coal-fired steam boilers will be significantly reduced, which after the completion of the project will serve as a peak load reserve.

Implementation of the project will improve the energy security of the plant in case of a blackout and will contribute to an increase in the competitiveness of ZGH "Bolesław" S.A.

Educational activities

Investment activities will be complemented by information and education activities including, among others, conferences and trainings on environmental protection resulting from the project implementation. The scope of these activities will include residents of Bukowno, Olkusz and surrounding areas.

Implementation period

The agreement for the project's co-financing was signed on 14th January 2022 and the planned completion date is 30th April 2024.
