Ecology in the context of the Catholic doctrine

Vice-Minister Sławomir Mazurek took part in the 12th international scientific conference in the “Humanistic Ecology” series, entitled “The Church towards Ecological Crisis. On the 30th Anniversary of Polish Bishops' Pastoral Letter on Environmental Protection” which was held at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw.
The event referred to not only the pastoral letter of Polish bishops on environmental protection, but also the Laudato si’ papal encyclical, which raised the issue of ecology in the light of the Catholic Church’s doctrine.
Pope Francis particularly pointed to the concern for the Earth as our common home, expressed in the Laudato si’ encyclical, which is certainly an inspiration for a greater commitment to the protection of the environment,
Vice-Minister Mazurek pointed out.
This is why the Ministry of Environment undertakes and supports activities concerning environmental education, which raise awareness about such issues among the society,
he added.
Shaping and strengthening the ecological awareness of Poles is crucial for implementing and maintaining environmental protection standards. Therefore, the presentation of ecological initiatives of the Catholic Church in Poland, both by the official representatives of the Church and Catholic movements and organisations, is extremely important.
Achieving sustainable development with respect for the environment is a multifaceted process. In accordance with the conclusions of COP24 in Katowice and Pope Francis’ calls on the society, it is necessary to work together to curb climate change on Earth.
