ETV – the EU’s Environmental Technology Verification Programme
Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) is a tool to help innovative environmental technologies reach the market. The concept of it is to offer a verification procedure to cutting edge environmental technologies that may otherwise find it difficult to establish their environmental added value. The verification procedure allows for an independent assessment and validation of the manufacturer's claims on the performance and environmental benefits of their technology. The information produced by the verification is public and can be used to compare performance parameters and therefore becomes an extremely useful tool to convince third-parties of the merits of a technology, potentially enhancing its market value and acceptance.
The verification process is performed in line with the ISO 14034:2016 standard entitled: Environmental management – Environmental technology verification (ETV).
The European Commission initiated the EU-ETV Pilot Programme as one of the initiatives under the Eco-Innovation Action Plan in December 2011. Poland was one out of seven countries participating in the Pilot Programme. Three Polish technologies has been verified so far.
According to the new Circular Economy Action Plan from 2020, ETV will be registered as an EU certification mark. Thus, ETV will be strengthened due to recognising green technologies’ potential for industrial modernisation.
