Increasing the protection of ecosystems by removing Sosnowski's borscht in the Leżajsk commune

The Minister of Climate and the Environment, with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program, informs about the conclusion of a contract for co-financing the project “Increasing the protection of ecosystems by removing Sosnowski's borscht in the Leżajsk commune”.

The project beneficiary is Leżajsk Commune.

About the project

The project received funding in the call for proposals for Increased protection against invasive alien species under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme in the area of Natural environment and ecosystems.

The total cost of the project is approximately EUR 550 thousand (PLN 2.3 million) and the requested amount of co-financing is approximately EUR 470 thousand (PLN 2 million). It is financed in 85% from the funds of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program under the EEA Grants and 15% from the national budget.

In this commune, Sosnowskyi Heracelum occurs in the area of 58.64 ha. Reducing the occurrence of hogweed will be combined with increasing public awareness of the dangers of hogweed. The project will be implemented using the combination of mechanical and chemical methods.

Implementation period

The agreement for the project's co-financing was signed in October 2021. The planned completion date is April, 2024.
