Environment Energy and Climate Change Programme - #climate

The Minister of Climate and Environment, supported by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM), as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs of the conclusion of the agreement on co-financing Kowary in green and blue project.

About the project

The project obtained co-financing in the call for proposals: The implementation of green and blue infrastructure in cities under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, in the area of climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The beneficiary of the project is the Kowary Town.

The eligible costs of EUR 2.6 M (approx. PLN 11 M) are financed 85% from the EEA Grants.

The project aims to increase the resilience of the Kowary Town to climate change, adaptation to this change and raising environmental awareness.

The project will include, among other things, the renovation of the reservoir to increase its retention and bioretention capacity, the revitalization of the area around the reservoir, and the purchase of rainwater tanks.

The investment work will be complemented by educational and informational activities aimed at increasing the ecological awareness of the public, and a series of expert training courses within the framework of which participants will gain knowledge allowing them to act as local eco-educators and initiators of further changes towards the development of green-blue infrastructure.

Partnership

The project is being implemented in partnership with an entity from Norway, Enfini AS, working on energy generation from RES. The partner will conduct training in Poland and support the development of a code of good practices for the development of Kowary.

Implementation period

The agreement for the project's co-financing was signed in November 2021. The planned completion date is April, 2024.
