The Minister of Climate and Environment, supported by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM), as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs of the conclusion of an agreement for co-financing “Mikołów for Climate - implementation of investments in the field of Blue and Green infrastructure in the city” project.
The beneficiary of the project is the Mikołów Commune.
About the project
The project obtained co-financing in the call for proposals: The implementation of green and blue infrastructure in cities under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, in the area of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The total cost of the project is approximately EUR 2.7 million (PLN 11.7 million) and the requested amount of funding is approximately EUR 2.3 million (PLN 9.9 million).
It is financed in 85% from the funds of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, of which 85% comes from the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA FM) and 15% from the state budget.
The aim of the project is to implement investments that will allow the city to adapt to changing climatic conditions, and thus positively affect the quality of life of Mikołów residents.
The investments provided for in the project will cover selected parts of the central part and the outskirts, covering extensive natural and recreational areas of strategic importance for the city.
Equally important as the investment effect is the social message of the project, which is to promote active, sustainable participation of local communities in adaptation and mitigation activities and to maintain their effects. Therefore, in addition to activities implementing the solutions, an information and education campaign is planned in order to raise awareness and social activism among Mikołów residents.
Partnership
The project is conducted with partner from Liechtenstein (Liechtenstein Institute for Strategic Development AG) and Silesian Botanical Garden.
Implementation period
The contract for the project's co-financing was signed in December 2021 and the planned completion date is April 30, 2024.
