Minister Kurtyka at the “Combating Drought” seminar

Diagnosis of the current state of water management in Poland is the main topic of discussions held during the “Combating Drought” seminar. The event, which took place on 5 May 2021, was attended by Michał Kurtyka, Minister of Climate and Environment.
As Minister Kurtyka emphasised during the opening, we are currently facing a huge challenge to mitigate the effects of drought and water shortages.
The periods of drought that have taken place in recent years have clearly shown that water resources in Poland are insufficient; their consequences have been felt not only by many economic sectors but also by the environment. It is therefore important to manage the water resources rationally,
he said.
Minister also pointed out that last year the Ministry of Climate and Environment launched among others the “My Water” programme which is intended to help mitigate the effects of drought in Poland and reduce the flood risk by building rain-retention installations at homes.
Last year, the “My water” programme enjoyed huge interest, which is why we decided to continue it this year as well. The second recruitment under the programme offers Polish families another 100 million Polish zlotys to co-finance facilities for the retention of rainwater,
he said.
The seminar also included debates on “Combating drought and water retention in Poland” and “Combating drought and water retention in the European Union New Green Deal”, attended by prof. dr hab. Jarosław Gryz – Vice-Rector for Student Affairs at the War Studies Academy, dr Sławomir Gromadzki – lecturer at the Faculty of National Security of the War Studies Academy, as well as Łukasz Lange – Plenipotentiary of the Minister of Climate and Environment for counteracting the effects of drought and the scarcity of water resources in the environment.
