Ministries of Environment and Agriculture work jointly for the development of Polish rural areas

Today, the Minister of Environment Henryk Kowalczyk and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski took part in a joint press conference concerning the implementation of a nationwide programme for environmental regeneration of soils by liming. During the event, an agreement was also signed between the Regional Funds for Environmental Protection and Water Management and the National Chemical–Agricultural Station in Warsaw.
“I am glad that the cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is going smoothly. This is another great joint initiative aimed at supporting farmers. Thanks to our cooperation, we can support the level of growth in rural areas,” said the Minister of Environment Henryk Kowalczyk.
“The implementation of this project will also benefit the environment thanks to the improvement of the quality of arable lands,” he added.
National Programme for Environmental Regeneration of Soils by Liming priority programme
The programme will offer subsidies for regeneration measures for arable lands to farmers owning farms with a total area of up to 75 hectares, with soil pH less than or equal to 5.5.
The subsidies for the purchase of lime will depend on the area of the farm.
“Thanks to the agreement signed today between the Regional Funds for Environmental Protection and Water Management and the National Chemical–Agricultural Station in Warsaw, the process of submitting applications and granting subsidies to farmers will be facilitated,” said Minister Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski.
The soil liming programme will be carried out in 2019-2023, with more than 300 million złotys earmarked for its implementation. The Regional Funds for Environmental Protection and Water Management will be ready for the implementation of the programme by 15 July. The applications may be submitted to the District Chemical-Agricultural Stations, starting from the 1st of August.
