The Minister of Climate and Environment with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs of the conclusion of an agreement for co-financing “Modernization of electric power, heat and biogas management on the premises of the Płaszów Sewage Treatment Plant in Kraków at 3 Kosiarzy St.” project.

The beneficiary of the project is the Wodociągi Miasta Krakowa  joint-stock company.

About the project

The project obtained co-financing in the call for proposals Construction/modernization of municipal heating systems and elimination of individual heat sources under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme in the area of Improving energy efficiency and energy security.

It is financed in 45% from the funds of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, of which 85% comes from the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA FM) and 15% from the state budget.

The total cost of the project is more than PLN 12 million (about EUR 3 million), and the grant awarded is over PLN 4.4 million (more than EUR 1 million).

Additional funds
Following the increase procedure announced by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the amount of co-financing for the project has increased by over PLN 6.6 million (approximately EUR 1.5 million).

Purpose of the project

The aim of the project is primarily to improve air quality by increasing the production of energy from renewable sources (biogas) through the use of new cogeneration modules. As a result of the measures taken, the district heating system is expected to become an "efficient system", i.e. in accordance with Directive 2012/27/EU using at least 50% renewable energy and waste heat for heat production. It will also be 100% heat from cogeneration.

The implementation of the project will ensure the support of urban district heating infrastructure, improvement of energy efficiency and industrial energy generation.

Implementation period

The contract for the project's co-financing was concluded on November 29, 2021, while its planned completion date is April 2024.
