Nuclear mission of Polish companies in the USA

27.06.2024

A four-day trade mission of Polish industrial companies to the United States interested in cooperating with representatives of the US nuclear sector has come to an end.

Nuclear mission of Polish companies in the USA
  • Between 24 and 27 June, the delegation attended a number of meetings with suppliers of nuclear technology, both large-scale and SMRs, engineering, construction and assembly companies and manufacturers of specific components for the nuclear sector.
  • Representatives of Polish industrial companies held a meeting with key US companies and technology providers in the nuclear sector.
  • The mission was organised by the Polish Chamber of Commerce for Energy and Environmental Protection together with its US counterpart, the Nuclear Energy Institute.

Almost 30 Polish companies met in Washington DC and Pittsburgh/Cranberry with key US companies and technology providers in the nuclear sector: Westinghouse and Bechtel, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy and Curtiss-Wright EMD, as well as dozens of companies affiliated to the Nuclear Energy Institute.

The mission was organised by the Polish Chamber of Commerce for Energy and Environmental Protection together with its US counterpart, the Nuclear Energy Institute, with the support of the Department of Nuclear Energy, Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Polish Embassy in Washington, the US Embassy in Warsaw and the US Department of Energy.

Between 24 and 27 June, the delegation attended a number of meetings with suppliers of nuclear technology, both large-scale and SMRs, engineering, construction and assembly companies and manufacturers of specific components for the nuclear sector. The main objective of the mission was to promote Polish companies in relation to their US counterparts from the point of view of the Polish nuclear power programme, orders in the USA and on third-country markets. So far, more than a dozen cases of Polish companies fulfilling orders have been recorded, mainly for the production of specific components that were eventually made for US nuclear power plants. Cases of such cooperation (Polish and US entity) were also reported in Europe.

The Polish government perceives the nuclear power plant project as an opportunity for the development and expansion of Polish industry, both based on participation in Polish projects and entry into global supply chains for the nuclear industry. As part of the “Polish Nuclear Energy Programme”, the first power plant using US AP1000 technology will be built by the consortium of Westinghouse and Bechtel at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Pomerania.

To date, nearly 100 Polish companies have engaged in nuclear projects around the world.

For years, the Ministry of Climate and Environment has been implementing measures to enhance the competence of domestic enterprises for the greatest possible involvement in the programme in Poland and in export projects. Specialised technical training and workshops, as well as profiled business missions, have been organised for years.

Further specialised training will take place later this year. Interested companies are invited to contact the Department of Nuclear Energy, which will be part of the Ministry of Industry from 1 July this year.
