Opening of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline
30.09.2022
It is no coincidence that we have completed so many gas investments this year. We've known for a long time that cooperation with the East urgently needs to be revised, - said the Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moskwa at a press conference dedicated to the launch of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline. The event took place on September 27, 2022 in Goleniów.
The Baltic Pipe gas pipeline is intended to diversify gas supply sources to Poland and Denmark, as well as other countries in the Baltic Sea region and Central and Eastern Europe. It will provide Poland with direct access to gas deposits located on the Norwegian Shelf. The new interconnection between Poland and Denmark will significantly enhance the stability, security and competitiveness of the gas market in this part of Europe.
Baltic Pipe is, next to the LNG terminals or the Polish-Lithuanian GIPL pipeline, one of the most important infrastructure investments, thanks to which the Polish gas system, as one of the few in the European Union, can fully abandon gas supplies from Russia. We have the most entrances and interconnectors in the EU. We are connected to Slovakia, Lithuania, Denmark and Norway, among others. We can support the energy security not only of Poles, but also of countries in our region. We are on the safe side - we repeat this with an absolute sense of responsibility
- Minister Anna Moskwa said.
The ceremony of opening the gas pipeline at the Goleniow compressor station was attended by the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and representatives of the Government of the Republic of Poland, the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, Minister Anna Moskwa met with Minister of Petroleum and Energy of the Kingdom of Norway Terje Aasland, Minister of Climate, Energy and Supply of the Kingdom of Denmark Dan Jørgensen and Ditte Juul Jorgensen, Director General of DG ENER.
Minister Anna Moskwa and Minister Dan Jørgensen signed a Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Climate and Environment of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Supply of the Kingdom of Denmark. Its purpose is to establish a framework for mutually beneficial cooperation, in terms of accelerating the global energy transition and strengthening regional energy security.
