Polanica-Zdrój Commune - Revitalization and development of green areas in Polanica-Zdrój including green-blue infrastructure for the needs of adopting the city to climate changes
The Minister of Climate and Environment, supported by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM), as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs of the conclusion of an agreement for co-financing Revitalization and development of green areas in Polanica-Zdrój including green-blue infrastructure for the needs of adopting the city to climate changes project.
The beneficiary of the project is the Polanica-Zdrój Commune.
About the project
The project obtained co-financing in the call for proposals: The implementation of green and blue infrastructure in cities under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, in the area of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The total cost of the project is approximately EUR 2.1 million (PLN 8.9 million) and the requested amount of funding is approximately EUR 1.7 million (PLN 7.4 million).
It is financed in 85% from the funds of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, of which 85% comes from the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA FM) and 15% from the state budget.
Tasks aimed at adapting the city to climate change are envisaged. Among them are the revalorization of the historic Spa Park (planting of trees and green plants, renovation of park paths, storage and use of rainwater, renovation of the fountain, concert shell and lighting with replacement with energy-efficient ones), increasing the retention area and introduction of new vegetation in the city, as well as eco-stops. Also planned are the construction of rainwater retention areas and the creation of a wooden lookout point with a viewing tower. The revitalization and restoration project also includes the introduction of tall greenery - leafy trees.
Educational activities include the construction of an educational garden at one of the elementary schools. The garden will include a flower meadow, wooden houses for insects and elements of small architecture, outdoor tanks for collecting rainwater. Also to be created will be an educational-nature path around Maria Hill, a pedestrian-bicycle path or a health path with wooden exercise devices.

Implementation period
The contract for the project's co-financing was signed in November 2021 and the planned completion date is April 30, 2024.
