Polish- rench meeting on nuclear energy

Nuclear energy and the commitment of EU countries to a responsible and safe energy future was the topic of a conversation between Deputy Ministers of Climate and Environment Maciej Bando and Miłosz Motyka and the French Ambassador Etienne de Poncins and the Vice-President of the EDF Group, responsible for the development of new nuclear projects, Vakis Ramany. The meeting twas held on 7 June 2024 at the Ministry's headquarters.

Highlights:
•    The Polish government is fully committed to the energy transition, and nuclear energy is an integral part of this process and will be an essential part of the future Polish energy mix.
•    The development of nuclear energy will increase energy security and allow independence from imports of energy resources.    
•    Representatives of the French delegation presented current plans for the development of nuclear energy in France and Europe and once again expressed their readiness to participate in the implementation of the second nuclear power plant project in Poland.


The meeting continued the dialogue on nuclear energy with the French side. The Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, Maciej Bando, emphasised that Poland remains fully committed to transforming its energy sector and will achieve these goals through the implementation of renewable energy sources and nuclear energy into the energy mix.

We are committed to building a sustainable and stable energy sector in Poland based on renewable and nuclear energy sources.  Analysis of the experience and conditions of the energy transition keeps us convinced that nuclear energy is necessary to operate at the base of the power system, guaranteeing its stability.  Responsible energy transition should involve Polish industry and Polish specialists,

Representatives of the French delegation presented current plans for the development of nuclear energy in France and Europe. In this context, opportunities and possibilities for the European economies, including Poland, were emphasised.  Attention was also drawn to the need to prepare jobs and human resources, which are crucial for developing nuclear energy.
The French side reiterated its readiness to participate in the Polish nuclear power programme in the construction of the second nuclear power plant. The Government Plenipotentiary stressed that "once a suitable site has been identified and the required analyses and studies have been carried out, a more intensive dialogue will be undertaken with potential technology suppliers for the second power plant."
