Polish-Norwegian talks on the new perspective of the Norwegian and EEA Grants

26.09.2024

The development of Polish-Norwegian cooperation in the upcoming financial perspective of the Norwegian and EEA Grants was the main topic of a meeting between deputy minister Krzysztof Bolesta and the ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway Øystein Bø and the Director of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) Kjetil Lund, which took place on 26 September 2024.

Polish-Norwegian talks on the new perspective of the Norwegian and EEA Grants

The meeting took place during the closing conference of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme implemented under the Norway and EEA Grants. The time was not accidental - we are at the end of the current financial perspective and beginning preparations for the new one.

Deputy minister Krzysztof Bolesta emphasized that Polish-Norwegian cooperation, in particular within the Norway and EEA Grants, has a long history and, thanks to it, it has been possible to implement many needed projects. At the same time, he indicated that further thermomodernisation of buildings and improvement of air quality are priorities for the Ministry.

Among the potential areas for further cooperation, CO2 capture and storage technology (so-called CCS) and support for measures to prevent extreme weather events were also mentioned. These issues are also of interest to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, which is a Programme Partner of the EEA Climate Programme.

During the discussion with director Kjetil Lund and Ragnar Semundseth, representative of the Norwegian Ministry of Energy, it was expressed an interest to continue and strengthen cooperation on the potential of CO2 capture, transport and storage technologies and to learn from the experience of Norwegian partners in this area.

In the upcoming perspective of the Norway and EEA Grants, we identify raising public awareness of CCS and pilot activities as potential areas for Polish-Norwegian cooperation

- said deputy minister Krzysztof Bolesta.

During their stay in Warsaw, the Norwegian delegation had the opportunity to see some of the projects, expressing their appreciation of the achieved results, both in terms of green-blue infrastructure in cities and raising energy efficiency in schools.
