The future of Poland's nuclear power industry, the potential of the newly opened Regional Clean Energy Training Center, and further cooperation between Poland and the US in the field of energy were discussed by Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Miłosz Motyka and Dr Michael Goff – Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy at the US Department of Energy, one of the two most important US nuclear officials. The bilateral meeting took place during the grand opening of the Center mentioned above on 3 April 2024 within the walls of the Warsaw University of Technology.

Polish-US cooperation on nuclear energy development

During the meeting, the delegations discussed, among other things, Polish-American cooperation in developing nuclear energy and its impact on energy security in Poland and the Central and Eastern European region. They also discussed the role of the US in building competence and human resources for nuclear power in Poland.

Poland has consistently viewed investment in civil nuclear power as a truly strategic choice with broad implications for the geopolitical and energy security of Poland and Central and Eastern Europe more broadly, i.e. energy sovereignty and independence of supply, as well as decarbonisation and economic growth and affordable energy prices

– said Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Miłosz Motyka.

As part of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme, a consortium of Westinghouse and Bechtel will build the first power plant with three reactors using US AP1000 technology at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino location in Pomerania.
