Protection of native nature against the invasion of Sosnowski's borscht, knotweed and Canadian goldenrod in the communes of Kępice and Kobylnica

The Minister of Climate and the Environment, with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program, informs about the conclusion of a contract for co-financing the project “Protection of native nature against the invasion of Sosnowski's borscht, knotweed and Canadian goldenrod in the communes of Kępice and Kobylnica”.

The project beneficiary is Kępice Commune.

About the project

The project received funding in the call for proposals for Increased protection against invasive alien species under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme in the area of Natural environment and ecosystems.

The total cost of the project is approximately EUR 864 thousand (PLN 3.7 million) and the requested amount of co-financing is approximately EUR 730 thousand (PLN 3.1 million). It is financed in 85% from the funds of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program under the EEA Grants.

The project aims to combat selected invasive species: Sosnowskyi Heracelum and Canadian goldenrod in the communes of Kępice and Kobylnica and the knotweed in the Kępice Commune. The area where these alien species will be combated is 69.8 ha in total. The planned activities are: development and implementation of a plant removal plan, testing of control methods, management of waste generated from removed plants and monitoring of performed treatments. The information campaign will also be organized throughout the voivodeship involving educational meetings, folders, the film and the development of a lesson plan for schools.

Implementation period

The agreement for the project's co-financing was signed in November 2021. The planned completion date is March 29, 2024.
