Study visit in Southern Norway - hydropower
30.06.2019
In June 2019 the study visit dedicated to the hydro energy took place in Norway. Its aim was to spread knowledge among the Polish participants and exchange experience with Norwegian institutions in the area of building and exploitation of hydro power plants in different technical and environmental conditions.
The visit was financed from the Fund of Bilateral Relations under EEA and Norway Financial Mechanism.
The participants had the Chance to visit Nomeland, one of the oldest hydro power station in the world, which was launched in 1920. It is located on the dam embankment of Otra resevoir. The total power of the installed hydro parts have is 28,9 MW, and the annually production - 169GWh.
Participants have also the possibility to visit the NGO’s that s taking care about the salmon protection called “blee”. They have also visited Langevatn dam, which is currently under reconstruction and the planned term of start of its exploitation is 2021. Another dams that were visited are as follows: Skjerkevatn i Heddersvika and Laudal.
The additional part of the visit was the visit in the factory of the intermediate products of the photovoltaic panels one of the Norwegian Company, which is special as it have great results in the production of photovoltaic and pro-environmental practice used in the life cycle of the product (production, exploitation, utilisation).
During the visit good cooperation were shown between hydro-energy power plant and local communities, meaning that municipalities are partly owner of some electrical companies.
The participants of the visit were under impression that the very big investment may be constructed in such a short period of time ( i.e. the building of the dam Langevatn are supposed to take 3-4 years) and the very high level of digitisation. It was mentioned on the big chances that may be achieved by Poland using hydro power plant
The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate was the organizers of the study visit during which there were a lot of seminars that was valuable. The visit make Polish participants to get to know with the best practices that are used in Norway.
Norway for years developed the area of hydrothermal energy .It has a potential estimated for 213TWh. 98% of energy in Norway comes from the renewable resources and up 96% from hydro power energy.
