The complex renaturation of the forests wetlands and swamps on the protected areas located in the Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Poznań, through the increase of the forests potential to retention the water
The Minister of Climate and the Environment, with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program, informs about the conclusion of a contract for co-financing the project “The complex renaturation of the forests wetlands and swamps on the protected areas located in the Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Poznań, through the increase of the forests potential to retention the water”.
The beneficiary of the project is the Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Poznań.
About the project
The project received funding in the call for proposals for Implementation of ecosystem management plans under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme in the area of Natural environment and ecosystems.
The project was submitted in the call for proposals under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, in the area of Environmental status of ecosystems improved. 85% of eligible expenditures are co-financed by the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program under the EEA Grants.
The total cost is approximately EUR 1.16 million (PLN 5 million) and the requested amount of funding is approximately EUR 1 million (PLN 4.2 million).
The project concerns the comprehensive restoration of degraded and disappearing wetlands, the restoration of natural wet natural habitats and is an attempt to return to the original state of habitats in protected areas at the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Poznań. Because the ongoing degradation of wetlands and humid habitats is a consequence of a changing climate and human activity, activities planned in the project are to increase water retention (restoration of wetlands, mid-forest reservoirs, creation of channel retention) and to slow down the outflow of water (thresholds and gates in ditches). The aim of the project is to improve water conditions in forest habitats, which will strengthen resistance to threats related to climate change and prevent or minimize the negative effects of natural phenomena, mainly drought.
Partnership
The project is conducted with the Norwegian partner Forestry Extension Institute and 16 forest districts managed by the Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Poznań.
Implementation period
The agreement for the project's co-financing was signed in November 2021. The planned completion date is April, 2024.
