Urban river valleys ecosystems. The potential of ecosystem services for climate change mitigation

The Minister of Climate and Environment, with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs about the conclusion of a contract for co-financing the project “URBAN RIVER VALLEYS ECOSYSTEMS The potential of ecosystem services for climate change mitigation”.

About the project

The project received funding in the call for proposals for Activities related to the protection of the environment and ecosystems carried out by the NGOs under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, in the area of Environmental status of ecosystems improved.

The total cost is approximately EUR 210 thousand (PLN 920 thousand) and the requested amount of funding is approximately EUR 190 thousand (PLN 830 thousand).

It is co-financed in 90% by the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (of which 85% comes from the EEA Financial Mechanism and 15% from the national budget).

The aim of the project is to raise environmental awareness of river valley ecosystems (also streams, brooks) and the importance of these services for the quality of life in the city and for adaptation and mitigation of climate change. As part of the project, a series of educational activities will be carried out targeting professionals, representatives of local governments, NGOs and city residents. These will include:

expert meetings,
a study on the perception of river valleys,
training on urban river valley ecosystems,
workshops: Managing river valley ecosystems, Conducting educational activities and public campaigns on river valley ecosystems, Designing nature-based solutions,
study visit - good practices in Norway,
publication Urban River Valleys.
