Vice-Minister Małgorzata Golińska visits the United Nations and the International Union for Conservation of Nature

The exchange of experience in the management of natural World Heritage Sites was the main topic of the meeting at the headquarters of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Switzerland. Vice-Minister Małgorzata Golińska also took part in the celebration of the International Day of Forests on the 21st of March.
Meeting at the International Union for the Conservation of Nature
Vice-Minister Małgorzata Golińska talked with IUCN representatives about numerous topics, including the cooperation between Poland and UNESCO in the management of World Heritage Sites.
Poland fulfils its obligations resulting from the UNESCO acts. We are trying to implement the recommendations that come to us through dialogue and consensus, said Vice-Minister Golińska.
International Day of Forests
The second part of the visit was connected with the celebration of the International Day of Forests and a visit at the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development taking place in Geneva, at the UN headquarters. Opening the celebrations of the International Day of Forests, Vice-Minister Małgorzata Golińska pointed out the importance of forest education at every stage of education.
“Education provided by foresters makes for a better understanding of sustainable forest management and effective nature conservation measures,” said the Vice-Minister.
Sustainable forest management contributes to the achievement of environmental and social objectives. In addition, forests are an important factor in climate change mitigation, she added.
Małgorzata Golińska also attended bilateral meetings with Olga Algayerova – Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, devoted to the actions taken to protect the environment in Poland and Europe.
Regional Forum on Sustainable Development
At the end of her visit to Geneva, the Vice-Minister of Environment also took part in a high-level meeting opening the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development. The Vice-Minister emphasised the significance of forests for the improvement of the quality of life of societies, as well as on economic growth.
The role of forests in the development of countries and societies continues to grow through the provision of economic, social and cultural benefits. I am glad that this positive trend is also noticed and appreciated by the UN Sustainable Development Agenda, stressed the Vice-Minister of Environment Małgorzata Golińska.
During the Forum, Vice-Minister Małgorzata Golińska also met with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed. Their talks focused on the role of forests in sustainable development
