WROMPA - heat pump in Wrocław

Environment Energy and Climate Change Programme MF EOG #ENERGY

The Minister of Climate and Environment with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as the Operator of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, informs of the conclusion of an agreement for co-financing “Construction of a heat pump as a new power source for the municipal heating network in Wrocław” project.

The beneficiary of the project is the Fortum Power and Heat Polska Sp. z o.o.

About the project

The project obtained co-financing  in the call for proposals Construction/modernization of municipal heating systems and elimination of individual heat sources under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme in the area of Improving energy efficiency and energy security.

It is financed in 45% from the funds of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme, of which 85% comes from the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA FM) and 15% from the state budget.

The total cost of the project is approximately PLN 60 million (EUR 14 million), and the grant awarded is approximately PLN 21 million (EUR 5 million).

Purpose of the project

WROMPA - Wrocław Heat Pump is an investment involving the construction of a 12.5 MW heat pump, along with the necessary associated infrastructure, which will be powered by electricity from RES. It will extract environmentally friendly heat from municipal sewage and rainwater. For this purpose, the investment will be built on the site of a sewage pumping station.

Implementation of the project will contribute to reducing the demand for heat produced from conventional energy sources, which will reduce emissions of pollutants into the environment. As a result it will contribute to reducing emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere (CO2, SO2, NOx and dust).

WROMPA is the largest installation in Poland for obtaining energy from wastewater. The expected reduction in CO2 emissions as a result of the project is about 35,000 tons per year and the supply of heat from RES at about 81,000 Gj per year.

Partnership

Project is implemented in cooperation with Norwegian partner Fortum Oslo Varme AS.

Implementation period

The contract for the project's co-financing was concluded on November 30, 2021, while its planned completion date is April 2024.
