Conversation of the Minister of the Interior and Administration with EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management

On Friday, 10 January, the Minister of the Interior and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak met with the EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib. The event was also attended by Deputy Minister Maciej Duszczyk, Director of the EC Representation in Poland Katarzyna Smyk and Maria Zuber, Head of ECHO A.1 – Crisis Response Operations.

The talks focused on the priorities of the Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union, in particular those concerning civil defence and civil protection. The attendees noted that one of the priorities is to improve the coordination of activities taking place at the EU level, in particular in the context of the recommendations of the Safer Together: Strengthening Europe's Civilian and Military Preparedness by Sauli Niinistö. 

A debate on civil defence and civil protection will take place at the informal JHA Council on 30 January, attended by Sauli Niinistö. 

During the meeting, the attendees emphasised that the Polish Presidency would address the development of crisis communication during emergencies and disasters as well as the strengthening and further development of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. 

Friday's meeting was Commissioner Hadji Lahbib's first official visit to Poland after taking office.
