EU-level talks on migration partnership

15.03.2021

Deputy Minister Bartosz Grodecki took part in a joint videoconference of EU interior and foreign ministers held on Monday (15 March) to talk about partnerships with third countries in the sphere of migration.

Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration Bartosz Grodecki participated in a video conference of the JUMBO.

Undersecretary of State Bartosz Grodecki participated in a joint videoconference of the ministers of interior affairs and ministers of foreign affairs where EU migration partnerships with third countries were discussed.

Undersecretary of State Bartosz Grodecki emphasised during his speech that, above all, partnership agreements with third countries should constitute a reliable foundation for cooperation and serve as an effective EU tool in enforcing readmission. Poland is of the opinion that such an approach should be linked to financing instruments to a greater extent, as the visa leverage may prove to be insufficient, and the level of implementation of return and readmission is still not satisfactory.

Furthermore, Undersecretary of State Bartosz Grodecki emphasised the importance of effective border protection for the strengthening of the migration and asylum management system. Due to Poland's involvement in the protection of the EU eastern border, he called for a proper balance within the geographical priorities for cooperation in the external dimension. He also reminded all concerned that the migration policy is always subject to the sovereign decisions of the Member States and that when creating new initiatives in this field, EU institutions should respond to their members’ expectations.
