EU-US talks on justice and home affairs

A meeting of senior European Union and the United States officials concerning justice and home affairs took place on 31 March and 1 April 2025, led by the Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union. Common priorities included combating crime and irregular migration.
The event brought together representatives of the European Union, including the European Commission, the General Secretariat of the Council, the European External Action Service, the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, Eurojust and Europol as well as representatives of the United States administration - the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State and the Department of Justice, in addition to the Polish Presidency.
The representatives of the upcoming Danish Presidency staff also attended the meeting.
Migration and crime - main topics of the transatlantic talks
During the first day of the talks, the participants focused on issues pertaining to the fight against organised crime and drug trafficking as well as irregular migration, which they identified as priorities for both sides.
On the second day of the meeting, the representatives of the EU and the US exchanged information on counter-terrorism and cyberthreats, and brought up the current challenges concerning visa reciprocity. The meeting also provided an opportunity to outline the priorities of the upcoming Danish Presidency in the Council of the European Union.
Also on the agenda was a visit to the Polish-Belarusian border organised by the Polish side.
The Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union was represented by the officials of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration and the Ministry of Justice.
