Meeting of Minister Mariusz Kamiński with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya
24.01.2023
On Tuesday, 24 January, Minister Mariusz Kamiński met with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the leader of the democratic opposition in Belarus and head of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus. The talks concerned, among other things, the situation of Belarusian refugees in Poland. Deputy Minister Bartosz Grodecki also attended the meeting.
During the conversation, the Head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration stressed that Poland constantly supports activists of the Belarusian opposition. All those feeling threatened by the Minsk regime due to the political situation can also count on our assistance. The current repression in Belarus is getting worse. Poland has therefore introduced several facilitations for the legalisation of the citizens of this country in our country.
Belarusian refugees' need to legalise their stay in the European Union was the subject of a particular letter sent by Minister Mariusz Kamiński to Ylva Johansson, the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs. In the letter, the Head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration declared that Poland was ready to participate actively in all initiatives the European Commission took to regulate these issues. He also conveyed that our country is willing to share its experiences and solutions, worked out in cooperation with the democratic Belarusian opposition in this area.
The third conversation between the Head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration and the leader of the democratic opposition in Belarus
Tuesday's conversation between Minister Mariusz Kaminski and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the leader of the democratic opposition in Belarus, is the subsequent meeting between the two politicians. In March 2022, the discussion topics included the situation in Belarus, the war in Ukraine and the security of our region. At that time, the Team was established to solve the problems of refugees from Belarus residing on Polish territory.
On the other hand, the politicians debated the current situation regarding the security of Poland and Belarus in the context of the Russian aggression against Ukraine in October last year.
