Minister Tomasz Siemoniak and EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner talked about the priorities of the Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union. Their talks focused on the Polish Presidency's key objective – bolstering EU security, with particular focus on migration and borders, internal security and civil protection.

As far as the migration policy is concerned, the parties pointed out that Poland is committed to strengthening the external borders of the EU and ensuring an effective response to the abuse of migration.

We are going to continue working on innovative solutions concerning migration management, in the spirit of the letter of 15 Member States submitted to the EC.

Ensuring the effectiveness of the European return policy also remains an important matter. Poland will also discuss key aspects of the new internal security strategy for the EU, which are particularly important to the Member States. In the area of civil defence and civil protection, coordination at EU level needs work, especially in the context of the insights from the Niinistö report.

Thursday's meeting was Commissioner Magnus Brunner's first official visit to Poland since taking office.
