Minister Tomasz Siemoniak met with Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov

Today, on 8 January, Minister of the Interior and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak met in Warsaw with Oleksiy Chernyshov, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Unity of Ukraine. During the meeting, the participants discussed issues related to the stay of war refugees from Ukraine in Poland. There are currently more than 987,000 Ukrainian nationals with war refugee status on the territory of the Republic of Poland.
Support for Ukraine is a matter of European security
Minister Tomasz Siemoniak and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Unity Oleksiy Chernyshov met at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Warsaw. This is another of the meetings in recent months between the Minister of the Interior and Administration and representatives of the Ukrainian government.
‘This is another important event, held after a short period of time, in the friendly relations between Poland and Ukraine. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed in Lviv that Ukraine has Poland’s full support all the time after the Russian invasion of its territory', Minister Tomasz Siemoniak emphasised.
The Polish side indicated that support for Ukraine is one of the priorities of the Polish Presidency of the European Union. During the meeting, the Ukrainian side presented the plans and priorities of its ministry’s work on activities for Ukrainian citizens residing outside Ukraine’s territory.
The situation of Ukrainian citizens in Poland was the main topic of discussion
Delegations from the two countries discussed the situation and the legal framework governing the stay of Ukrainian citizens in Poland – the need for long-term solutions in this area was emphasised.
The Polish side endeavours to take measures that favour the stabilisation of the living situation of Ukrainian citizens residing in Poland, including those leading to their independent functioning.
‘Intensive contacts between Poland and Ukraine are particularly important, especially during the coming weeks and months in the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. The opinion of the Ukrainian side will be taken into account in our actions', said Minister Tomasz Siemoniak. ‘The position of the Polish state is clear – nothing about you without you', he pointed out.
