Passport Bureau at the Warsaw Chopin Airport helps 900 travellers
22.05.2023
In the first month of operation, 900 citizens have taken advantage of the services of the Passport Bureau at the Warsaw Chopin Airport, issuing temporary passports. The Bureau enjoys significant popularity, with an average of 50 temporary passports issued each day.
On 20 April, Minister Mariusz Kamiński and Deputy Minister Bartosz Grodecki announced the launch of a Passport Bureau issuing temporary passports at the Warsaw Chopin Airport. To date, the initiative has helped numerous people who did not have a valid passport despite planning their journeys well in advance.
Thanks to the quick and efficient support, the Bureau was able to help parents to attend their son’s dissertation defence and a friend was able to attend a wedding. The temporary passports were also issued to the married couple who were gifted an international trip for their wedding anniversary by their children, as well as a son who was invited for a trip as a birthday present from his parents.
Passport Bureau and temporary passports
The Passport Bureau at the Warsaw Chopin Airport issues temporary passports to citizens who have to produce a valid airline ticket while submitting the application. The Bureau employee verifies the identity of the person who applies for a temporary passport and takes a photograph required to issue the document.
A temporary passport is only valid for a certain period of time – 365 days at most; however, the validity is determined on a case-by-case basis. Thanks to the Passport Document Registry, which has been operating since 2022, an application for a temporary passport is generated electronically and then signed using a signature device.
A temporary passport is issued when a traveller loses/forgets their passport or ID card, as well as in the cases their documents are stolen. Applying for a temporary passport for a child requires consent of both parents.
