Polish government supports Moldova's sovereignty

02.06.2023

In view of the need to strengthen the pro-European government in Chișinău and ensure a high level of public safety, Minister Mariusz Kamiński, in consultation with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, decided to transfer equipment and supplies, including weapons and ammunition, as well as helmets, tactical vests and protective gear to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova in yet another gesture of support for Moldova’s security.

Polish government supports Moldova's sovereignty

An independent and sovereign Moldova, resisting attempts at destabilisation launched from the inside, needs our support! That is what prompted my decision to support the Moldovan police force with weapons, ammunition and equipment provided by the services subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior and Administration – 2 Hercules and 4 CASA planes in total

– Minister Mariusz Kamiński pointed out.

Poland has long been actively involved in supporting Moldova’s independence. A joint exercise of police counter-terrorism units from Poland and Moldova was held in Chișinău in early May this year. At the end of these exercises, officers of special units of the police forces of both countries symbolically flew a Polish Black Hawk helicopter over Chișinău’s Grand Assembly Square, flying the Moldovan and European Union flags. The event took place on Europe Day, May 9th as a token of our support for Moldova's aspirations to achieve independence from Russia.

In support of the pro-European government in Moldova, the Minister of Interior and Administration also decided to put Ilan Şor, leader of the pro-Russian ŞORA Party (formerly the Socio-Political Movement “Equality”), on the sanctions list. Moldova has issued an arrest warrant for Ilan Şor, who is also responsible for organising pro-Russian protests and demonstrations, which led to destabilisation of the situation in the country.
