Polish-Romanian Intergovernmental Consultations with Deputy Minister Bartosz Grodecki

On Tuesday, 28 March 2023, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration Bartosz Grodecki participated in Polish-Romanian Intergovernmental Consultations held in Bucharest. The Bucharest talks were presided over by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă.
During the meeting with Romanian Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Raed Arafat, they discussed collaboration on civil protection, support for Ukrainian refugees and tackling illegal migration. They also highlighted collaboration with third countries in the field of readmission and the need to counter the instrumentalisation of migration as a tool for exerting pressure on European Union Member States. The ministers also reiterated the importance of a well-functioning Schengen Area as a key factor contributing to the stability of the European Union.
During the visit, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania signed a joint Declaration on Cooperation in the field of Civil Protection. Among the objectives of the document are to mitigate the risk of disasters and other emergencies in Romania and Poland, to facilitate coordination between Polish and Romanian agencies during disasters and other emergencies, as well as to exchange information on best practices in civil protection. The declaration also aims to strengthen joint efforts in raising international funds for civil protection initiatives.
