On 14 June, the Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, appointed attorney Marcin Stanecki as the Chief Labour Inspector. For the past three years, the attorney served as Director of the Labour Law Department at the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy.

At a press briefing today, the management of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy presented details of the introduction of the “Active Parent” scheme. Applications for the new benefits may be submitted to the Social Insurance Institution ZUS from 1 October 2024. At present, 577,000 children are eligible for the scheme.

Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy, together with the Director General of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, Liwiusz Laska, represented Poland at the 112th Session of the International Labour Conference. It is the annual meeting of the most important body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), which is a specialised agenda of the United Nations Organisation as well as the world's most important organisation dealing with labour law and social affairs, which adopted more than 190 international conventions.

At the end of May, the registered unemployment rate estimated by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy reached 5.0%, 0.1 percentage point lower than in April this year. The number of the unemployed amounted to 778,300, i.e. 18,800 less than at the end of April this year. Since 1990, there has never been a lower number of unemployed people recorded or a lower registered unemployment rate in May.

The 14th pension will be paid this year in September - the Council of Ministers has just adopted a regulation concerning this matter. The money will go to 8.9 million people and 6.4 million people will receive the full amount - PLN 1,780.96.

The Statistics Poland has confirmed the estimates of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, which show that in April this year the registered unemployment rate was 5.1 per cent. - 0.2 percentage points lower than in March this year and in April 2023, which is the best result since 1990.

As promised by Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk even before this year's Mother's Day, parents of children born prematurely and hospitalised after birth received a special gift. It is a law extending maternity leave when a child is born prematurely or requires a longer stay in hospital.

The protection of employees who report employment-related violations of the law and with regard to the implementation of a directive of the European Parliament and the EU Council are the main objectives of the Law on the Protection of Whistleblowers, which has just been adopted by the Sejm.

The Law on Supporting Parents in Active Work and Childrearing (i.e. the Active Parent programme) was passed by the Senate on Thursday, May 23rd. The final step on the legislative path is the signature of the President of the Republic of Poland.

President Andrzej Duda has signed amendments to laws allowing for the introduction of programmes that will allow for the payment of PLN 1,000 gross allowances to employees in social assistance, foster care and institutions for the care of the youngest children as from 1 July this year.
