12.10.2023Checks on Polish-Slovak border are to be extended until 2 NovemberThe Minister of the Interior and Administration announced his decision to extend the period of reinstated border checks of travellers crossing the Polish-Slovak border by 20 days, until 2 November. The checks will be carried out only upon entry to Poland and crossing borders will be still allowed only at designated checkpoints. The aim of reinstating border checks is to curb irregular migration along the Balkan route. Travellers crossing the Polish-Slovak border should keep in mind to have their travel documents – an ID card or a passport – on them at all times.

03.10.2023Border checks temporarily reinstated at the Polish-Slovak borderEffective Wednesday, 4 October, starting at midnight, border checks of travellers will be temporarily reinstated at the Polish-Slovak border. The checks are carried out only upon entry to Poland and crossing borders is now allowed only at designated checkpoints. Individuals and their vehicles will be chosen based on risk analysis. The aim of reinstating border checks is to curb irregular migration along the Balkan route. Travellers crossing the Polish-Slovak border should keep in mind to have their travel documents – an ID card or a passport – on them at all times.

The rationale for this decision stems from the increasing irregular migration along the so-called Balkan route, one branch of which runs through Slovakia. 12.09.2023 MoldovaMeeting of the Ministers of the Interior of Poland and MoldovaOn Monday, 11 September, Minister Mariusz Kamiński met with the newly appointed Moldovan Minister of Internal Affairs Adrian Efros in Chisinau. Their meeting concerned Poland's continued support for Moldova to date as well as subsequent measures to address the threats facing the country. In this context, the ministers raised the topics of Russian aggression against Ukraine and attempts by pro-Russian groups to destabilise Moldova as well as the situation in Transnistria.

02.08.2023 KatowicePolish firefighters come home from GreeceOn 2 August, a group of 149 Polish firefighters returned to Poland from a mission to Greece. For the past two weeks, they had been fighting forest wildfires as part of an international mission of the Polish State Fire Brigade, the 18th in its history and the 7th such assignment in recent years. The firefighters were welcomed at the Rescue and Firefighting Unit No. 1 in Katowice by the voivode of Silesia Jarosław Wieczorek and Deputy Chief of the State Fire Service, Brigadier-General Arkadiusz Przybyła. Minister Mariusz Kamiński expressed his gratitude towards the participants of the mission and thanked them for their commitment.
