What problem does our project solve?
1. ORGANISATIONAL INADEQUACY OF THE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION WITHIN THE AREA OF PROCEDURE
Persons with disabilities declare insufficient adaptation of procedures to their needs. This implies the need to adapt the educational process to the needs of persons with disabilities.
2. EDUCATIONAL PROCESS UNADAPTED TO STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Persons with disabilities may have many difficulties in participating in the activities provided at the higher education institution. Different types of disabilities among students determine different needs, including an access to the educational process.
3. INSUFFICIENT COMPETENCE OF EMPLOYEES OF THE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION AND THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITY ON THE SUBJECT OF DISABILITY
As a result of the analysis of the state of the adaptation of the higher education institution to the needs of persons with disabilities, it was found that the administrative and didactic employees of WSB do not have sufficient competencies in the subject of disability, overcoming barriers in the educational process and handling a student with disabilities.
4. INSUFFICIENT ARCHITECTURAL ACCESSIBILITY OF THE WSB IN GDAŃSK FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Architectural barriers limit the accessibility of facilities to a person with disabilities that are accessible to non-disabled persons.
Who will benefit from the outcomes of the project?
The results will primarily benefit students with disabilities at the WSB in Gdańsk, through the opportunity to study at the higher education institution that adapts to their needs by: eliminating accessibility barriers for students with disabilities, implementing changes in the management of the educational process, improving the didactic competencies of the employees of the higher education institution in terms of education and the needs of students with disabilities, improving the managerial competencies of the employees of the higher education institution in terms of adjusting to the needs of persons with disabilities, implementing solutions to eliminate the identified barriers of architectural accessibility.
Our advice to other Applicants
Children and young people with special needs are increasing in number. It is worth ensuring that they feel comfortable at school, at higher education institution and later in adult life at work. A sense of independence and self-determination is very important for people with disabilities because, apart from the psychological aspect, it enables them to function in a normal way in the society. Overcoming barriers of all kinds makes life easier for such persons and sometimes influences important decisions, such as entering a higher education institution.
