Competence pills of the West Pomeranian Business School

Thanks to trainings, conducted in the form of active workshops, we want to show to young people that their passion, hobby or even the way they are spending free time may become the basis of a successful career path in the future

As part of the project, two training programs were created:
1/ Young Leader Academy - with the following training courses: "From gamer to coder", "Enterprise project" and four lessons in social competences: "Self-presentation", "Time management", "Stress management", "Goal setting".
2/ Leader Academy 2.0 – with the following training courses: "Marketing and new media", "Design Thinking", "Lean and nimble management", "Leadership".
Over 700 people have already benefited from the trainings, ultimately there will be 1,200 participants of these courses.
These were online as well as stationary courses, in four cities: Szczecin, Gryfice, Stargard and Świnoujście, held at the college and in secondary and primary schools.

What problem is addressed by the project?

Thanks to trainings, conducted in the form of active workshops, we want to show to young people that their passion, hobby or even the way they are spending free time may become the basis of a successful career path in the future. In addition, the development of social and entrepreneurial competences will allow them to become important participants in the labour market in the future, not only in the region.
We persuade adults that it is never too late to learn and develop competences. We show that a university can be an integrator of activities related to lifelong learning, and not only a place of undergraduate and postgraduate education.
By offering trainings in four faculties of the College, also in smaller towns than Szczecin, we overcome the barrier of lack of access to a wide offer so as to respond to students’ passions and develop their professional career.

Who uses the project results?

The participants of the training are two age groups from the Szczecin Metropolitan Area and the Gryfice county:

  1. youth from grades 7-8 of primary schools and from secondary schools (high schools, technical secondary schools)
  2. adults 25+ years old

The college itself also benefits from the project. The developed didactic program enabled the extension of the West Pomeranian Business School’s portfolio.

What was the greatest challenge during project implementation?

During the implementation of the project, we had the first coronavirus attack and lockdown. Therefore, we had to adapt to online operation, although the project was not planned for remote training. However, we were able to prepare both the online recruitment process and the remote implementation of some of the courses. It also required some modifications to the organization and substantive changes in content of the training programs themselves and in the methods of conducting online workshops. We can congratulate our lecturers who rose to this challenge.

Our advice for other applicants

Recruiting trainees is a big challenge when the courses accumulate within a short period of time, because of the falling demand. Therefore, it is good to spread similar thematically training courses with longer periods between them.
